Red cedar split paling or the heavier Grapestakes are a basic stockade fence. The palings are 2 1/2" or 3" wide by 6´ tall and the grapestakes are approximately 3 1/2" square by 6´ tall. The palings or grapestakes are typically butted up to each other. Both types can be cut shorter for a lower fence or set above a retaining board. This fence is used as a more rough looking backdrop for a country yard.
